A knight beat three men in single combat, and then made sure no one would ever know his name. He didn't lose. He didn't die. He won — and then he disappeared into the night like he was never there at all. And when the king's own men tore the woods apart looking for him, all they found was a shield, hanging in a tree, laughing back at them. That's not how victors behave.
